Torridge & Bude CAB to
Merge with Mid Devon CAB?
Torridge and Bude CAB have started talking with Mid Devon CAB about a
possible merger. A Steering Group has been set up to look in to a possible
merger, which if it goes ahead should be concluded by the end of this
financial year. A Report is in the process of being written, which will be
presented to both Trustee Boards before Christmas for a decision whether
to merge or not.
If the merger does go ahead it will mean that the organisation will
increase in size substantially and have additional offices in Tiverton and
Crediton and an outreach venue in Cullompton.
Bid Submitted!
A bid has been submitted to the Legal Services Commission for a
Specialist Quality Mark in Housing. This will complement the
Specialist Quality Marks the organisation already has in Debt and Welfare
Benefits. If successful, it will enable the organisation to give legal
advice at a Specialist Level and access Legal Aid for people who have
housing problems. This advice can be given across the whole of North and
Mid Devon. The Specialist Quality Mark will add to our growing reputation
in being quality providers of Specialist advice in Social Welfare Law and
will complement the Court Desk Project we recently successfully bid
for.
The outcome of the bid will be known towards the end of September.
Bid Going In For A
Macmillan Project
Torridge & Bude CAB has been invited by Macmillan to submit a bid for a
project, which will fund a full time caseworker and a part time Admin
Officer. The bid, if successful will be to fund a 5 year project. It will
enable the organisation to work specifically with people who suffer from
cancer, their immediate families and carers.
The time table is for the bid to be in by the end of September and the
outcome should be known by the end of this year or early January 2009.
BIDEFORD
New Project with Housing Advice North Devon
From September Torridge & Bude CAB will be responsible for running a
‘Court Desk’ at the Barnstaple County Court. We will be working with
Housing Advice in Barnstaple to help people who find themselves in
financial difficulty with their rent or mortgage.
Stephen Davis, Manager of Torridge & Bude CAB said, ‘this is a fantastic
opportunity to work with a quality partner such as Housing Advice,
Barnstaple. Funding has been made available by North Devon District
Council to enable us to give specialist advice to people who are at severe
risk of becoming homeless. We can assist people who live in North Devon
through this project by giving specialist advice, which will go a long way
to preventing homelessness and as you would expect, relieve some of the
stress and anxiety that many people suffer from in circumstances such as
this.’
Lynden, Housing Advice Team Leader said, ‘we are delighted to be working
in partnership with Torridge & Bude CAB on this much needed service. With
the different skills and strengths each organisation brings, we can really
help people to overcome financial difficulties and avoid losing their
homes. This will be of real benefit to home owners, buy to let landlords
and their tenants. We intend this to be the beginning of an ongoing
partnership between our organisations for the benefit of people across
Northern Devon.’
HOLSWORTHY
Specialist Legal
Advice is now available at our Holsworthy Office for people who have
Welfare Benefit, Debt and Employment problems.
The public now have access to FREE Legal Aid by contacting Torridge and
Bude CAB. This new Specialist Advice Service is available every week.
